(John 15:3) "Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you."
Without forgiveness of sin, there is nothing that can make us clean, in God's sight. After salvation,, it is the divine plan, for the believer to be like Jesus. Only as we become like Him, can we be true witnesses to His character.
Jesus is the Living Word of God. It is God's desire and command that we live the word. As we obey the word, it makes us clean, ie. When we stop lying, cheating, gossiping. cursing, etc., we become more Christlike. As we begin doing good works, we start moving in His footsteps.
Studying the bible shows us what God expects from us, but for it to cleanse us, we must be DOERS and not HEARERS only. As we obey each admonition, we are made a little cleaner and become a little more lie the One who calls us to HOLY living.
