Have you ever participated in gossip? Sure you have! Newspapers, magazines, television and other social media make unbelievably huge profit, from digging up personal, intimate facts (and rumors) about celebrities and then making them known to the world. HIGHLIGHTED NEWS(?) THIS VERY DAY,...."(Name) INAPPROPRIATE RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS DAUGHTER!", and "THE AFFAIR THAT ENDED ((name) CAREER!" Items that inquiring (nosey?) minds want to know, so they can participate the next time tongues start "wagging."
Quite often, gossip tends to get malicious. Things are repeated that damage the lives, reputations and relationships of others. Frequently, the gossip ISN'T EVEN TRUE! Countless businesses, careers and marriages have been destroyed by gossip.
Gossip is listed among SEVEN THINGS THAT GOD HATES.(Proverbs 6::18, 19), such as..."An heart that devises wicked imaginations, Feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren." Notice that 4 of them pertain to gossip!
The next time you hear a "juicy", unfavorable bit of "information" about someone; do what pleases God and remember the golden rule; "Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you!
