Luke 10:40

 A MOMENT OF TRUTH

Stanley Hamilton

(Luke 10:40)  "But Martha was distracted by her many tasks, and she came up and asked, "Lord don't you care that my sister has left me to serve alone?  So tell her to help me."

Martha is a picture of a vast Number of Christians who stay busy serving Jesus, usually through the church.  She loved the Lord, with all her heart, and wanted to make everything ready for Him. While she started a labor of love, it turned into frustration, as she noticed Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus.  The frustration began to turn into bitterness and resentment, until she finally complained to Jesus........."don't you care? . . . ."Make her help me!"

I've heard many "Martha's" complaining or gossiping  about other Christians, not doing their part, and it's an ugly thing!  Being a servant for God is a good thing, but not when we get so busy serving, that we forget to simply "BE" with Him!  Mary was BEING with Jesus.  Jesus told Martha that Mary had chosen the "better part," (v 41) and that He would not stop her.

God wants us to love Him enough to serve Him, but desires, even more, our loving devotion and fellowship and personal attention. If your "Christian Service" hinders you from  "SITTING AT HIS FEET", then it's time to stop some of your activity and go sit with Mary.
