A Moment Of Truth
Stanley Hamilton
"Blessed are the merciful; for they shall obtain mercy." Matthew 5:7
Mercy Is Godlikeness. God is love and mercy is an extension of love. God's character is holy. His holy character demands justice (punishment), but God describes himself as LOVE. While part of His nature demands justice, another (love) desires mercy.
Holiness demanded punishment for sin (death). Love sent God to the cross, to pay the penalty of sin for all. In doing so, He remained true to Himself and since He had satisfied His own sense of justice, was now free to excuse the sinner from death.
God's love found a way to show mercy. He wants us to be like Him. . . . . .With our ENEMIES (Matt 5:43) "Love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you." (Prov. 24:17) "Don't gloat when your enemy stumbles..."
To the POOR . . .((Prov. 19:17niv) "Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will repay them for what they have done." To the HELPLESS . . . (Prov. 24:11nlt) "Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to die; save them as they stagger to death."
God's love found a way to show mercy and desires that His love will remain in us, and find its way to others!
